Comfort and joy

Nah, I'm not comfy or spoiled. Mom says it's an improvement from sleeping with the hole punch or stapler. :)

Today was Mom's Christmas bird count. She brought home the traditional bird cookie again this year. :)

Uhhhhhh, not so sure....

"One thing that separates the Himalayan different from the various other cat breeds is that the Himalayans will not jump all over the house in a hyperactive manner. Himalayan cats have a tendency to be a lot calmer. They enjoy living in households which are equally calm. You could sit down in your home with a Himalayan in residence and be sure that your cat will be jumping on your lap in a relatively quick manner. These are cats that LOVE people and they assume all people will reciprocate the love as well."

I am still convinced Prada is either a gremlin or a squirrel with attitude. As much as I love her entertaining stunts, I do wish she was nicer to our friends, guests, and cat sitter. *sigh* And she wonders why we have none!!

Times are changing, and unfortunately I sense that books are becoming a thing of the past.

Mom:

I'm not much older than my students in the sense that I am not old enough to be their mother. More like a much older sister (who acts like a mom by continuously reminding them to push in their chairs or that wrappers belong in the garbage and not in the little space under their desks). But, there is such a discrepancy in our generations. Books are our major discrepancy. Books. What is a book?

I absolutely LOVE to read, and I would do so much more of it if I had the time. There's just something about holding a book in your hands and flipping through it. It's nice to see that a lot of my students love reading too, but in a different sense. It's more like... starring at a screen. A lot of them have these eBook thingies, and really, what is the fun in that??? I guess the fact that I have to confiscate at least one cell phone per day (because I caught them texting in class) is an indication of where we are headed. That practice was unheard of when I was in high school.

I have a feeling that libraries will be obsolete in a few years. Why? Here is a conversation I had with my students yesterday:

Me: Ok, don't forget that we will be going to the library on Friday, so you can work on your projects.

Student: Why aren't we going to the computer lab?

Me: Because you may find some valuable information in books.

Student: Books??? It's so much faster to get it from the net.

Me: Not everything is on the net. There are some great books on this topic!

Student: But the internet has everything you're looking for. You have to LOOK for books, and it takes too much time. Besides, they're usually outdated.

Me: Books are not a waste of time, and history is never outdated. How many of you actually go to the library to pick out some books? *2 hands raised*

Student: We can use the computers at the library, right?

Me: Yes...

Need I say more?

Part 2 of lost attention!

Good evening readers,

Well, this weekend, it was Mom's turn to go to Grandma's, and I stayed home by myself. It wasn't so bad, but I was VERY happy when Mom returned. She feels bad that she left me home, but said that in a couple weeks, we'll be going for the holidays, so I'll get to spend LOTS of time playing with Maya and my new toys! I can't wait. Mom is anxious too because she says she is due f
or a little vacation. She says as much as she loves her work and her students, working with 110 teenagers is very hectic, even at the best of times. Especially since it is her first year. The students are also very much in need of a break at this point. Next weekend is Grandma's birthday, but we won't be going down, since it is the weekend of the Christmas bird count. Mom is very anxious for it. Besides, Grandma's friends are throwing her a big wine & cheese party since it will be her 65th birthday! Anyway, here are some more pictures of kisses and lack of attention. ;)

Kisses!

Mom, what's more important? Me or Facebook???

Looking pretty in jingle bells!

Not sure if she remembers this, but Auntie Linda got this cute collar for Mr. Fluffy shortly after Christmas last year. The other day, Mom was going through all his clothes, costumes and bandanas and came across this collar. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to wear it. It made Mom a little sad to come across it because Mr. Fluffy is not with us this Christmas. It is of some consolation to watch me with it on because I'm so silly running around trying to chase it! Here I am taking a break with the stapler after running around for a good 15 minutes!

Nothing like a good snuggle with the...

.........Hole punch of course!!!!

Yup, sleeping behind Mom's laptop is a new favourite now. Especially when she's doing work. Could this be a sign of lack of attention??? She's still trying to figure out how I manage to sleep there with all the junk back there. Cats are good at keeping secrets!

To grandmother's house I go...

Hello everyone!

Guess what, I am spending time at Grandma's house right now! Mom had a LOT of stuff going on this week, and wouldn't have been able to give me much attention, so she left me at Grandma's last weekend when we were down, and she's picking me up again this weekend. I can't wait to see her tomorrow. I am, however, having a great time playing with Maya (aka. my bestest buddy!)

Next week is my Auntie J's birthday, so Mom and friends are having their annual fondue (in her honour) this weekend.

On another animal related note, a student of Mom's had to have her beloved 14-year old dog put to sleep last night, and she was taking it very hard. Mom asked her if she was ok to stay at school today, and had a hard time watching her cry in class. She had a hard time not trying to break down herself. :S She loved her dog very much and because she knows that Mom is an animal nut too, it was often that she would talk to Mom about her dog. About a week ago, her student told her that the dog had gone for surgery and stopped eating. This reminded Mom so much of when Fluffy went for surgery and didn't make it. It's times like this that makes it difficult to be a teacher and have to maintain your composure. What a terrible time of year for this to happen. :( Of course, Mom's thoughts are with her student right now.

On a happier note, Mom picked up my photo at the SPCA after work today! She is disatisfied with it, but at least it went toward a good cause.

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!

Good evening all!

Well, Mom took me to see Santa Paws this morning, and I was very well behaved!! As soon as we walked in, I got soooooo much attention. Everyone thought I was adorable in my little dress & in my stroller. Mom says I was amazing with Santa! The only thing is that the photographer had a hard time getting a good picture of me because I was more interested in sniffing Santa's beard and face. I smelled sooo many doggies and kitties on him - it was a lot more exciting than having a picture taken. Sadly, we are unable to view the photos online like the other years. They have a different photographer this year unfortunately, so we'll have to wait a couple weeks to get them. The other one was amazing. Mom was a little sad because the event reminded her of when she used to take Mr. Fluffy. At least it was at another location, otherwise, she thinks it would have been too hard.

After the event, Mom and I went to the pet store (Pet Smart) to buy some litter for me. The pet store allows vaccinated pets. It was my first time there, and I had a great time cruising the isles. What a busy day I had!!!

Anyway, today was also the first snow fall of the season! Mom actually put up a few Christmas decorations (I know, it IS early)... She also finished up her Xmas shopping and is ready to start wrapping everything. I still say it's too early for all this...

Here are a few pics of me checking things out!

Oooooo!!!!

Mom says I look like a character right out of an X-Files episode with my glowing green eyes!

Mom made this decoration when she was 8 years old in 3rd grade! That was 21 years ago,and it is still in good shape. Pretty amazing for something made out of a toilet paper roll! haha...

Why?

Prada started hanging out in the sink... Funny enough, Mr. Fluffy used to do the same. Speaking of Mr. Fluffy, I was looking at his pictures, and lately, it feels as though life was so much better when he was around - it was a much happier time. If you have seen "Fried Green Tomatoes" (one of my favourite movies), it reminds me of when Ruth died - the whole town died right along with her. Same as Fluffy. He captured a lot of hearts, and when he went, everyone else did too. There was something very special about my little guy, and nobody or anything could ever replace the special soul he was. As much as I love my beautiful little girl, she doesn't capture people's hearts like he did. And honestly, if anything, I think she makes people want to stay away because of her rough play. I sure do miss my little guy... along with all the positive energy he brought into our lives. It seems so unfair. I can barely even stand my apartment because it reminds me too much of his last days here.

On another note, like brother, like sister....

Secrets revealed...

I have a very sweet side people (unfortunately) don't get to see often. I LOVE to give kisses and wash people. I don't like to show this side, but Mom managed to capture a very sweet moment. How dare she... (She was getting ready for bed here... she asks not to mind the crazy hair. hehe...)

Lip kisses of course. Sometimes I try to "french kiss", but Mom doesn't like that too much... (at least not with a cat) ;)

Nose kisses!

Side kisses! (hehe)

Forehead kisses!

Long weekend for me, short weekend for Mom

Well, Mom is finally home with me now. As you recall, she went to visit Grandma without me this weekend. I was sooooo happy when she got back. I started meowing even before Mom opened the door. Mom felt bad that she didn't leave me more water. She was only gone overnight, but I had no water left in my bowl and my food dish was quite empty too. Next time, she will have to get a sitter to come check on me. Hopefully, I'll be able to go too though. Mom spent some time with Maya and I guess Grandma got her a party dress too!

Mom had a great weekend with her mom and aunts. She got some Xmas shopping done, and only has a few more things to get now. She says it felt like such a short weekend though, and has a LOT of work to do since report cards are coming out and parent-teacher interviews are coming up. This will be her first time doing these, so she is a little nervous.

On another note, Mom is getting anxious for her 3rd annual Xmas Bird Count which is next month. She and her birding partner have been assigned to the downtown core these past couple years, but they would like a more "nature'ish" location. They would like to see more than Gulls and Pigeons this year. The sewage lagoon would be ideal. As "fun" as it is to walk around on "beach whistles" (tampons), there really is a nice assortment of birds to be found in these spots! Fingers crossed.

Anyway, here are some pictures of Cousin Maya!

You can't really see, but the front of the dress says "Mrs. Paws" :)

If looks could kill, huh? hehehe... Maya is a very sweet kitty though. :)

Mrs. Maya Paws! :)

Pretty holiday dress!

Well, Mom succeeded in making me wear my holiday dress with minimal struggle. I have to admit that I am pretty darn cute in it. Also, news has it that Santa has my favourite rubber balls in his workshop after all! Could that mean that I just might get some for Xmas?? Paws crossed.

Lest we forget...

It is Rememberance Day here in Canada. Of course Mom had the day off, and we got to spend some quality time together which is good. She has to work tomorrow, and she's going to visit grandma this weekend. I have to stay behind by myself unfortunately because Mom is taking her aunt with her and meeting some family in the city before going to the country to Grandma's house. I'm a little sad because I was told I would get to play with Maya this weekend. Oh well...

So the big news with us right now is that we got a new car! She had a 2004 VW Beetle convertible before, but the warranty ended and was faced with continuous expensive repairs, so she figured the best thing was to trade it in before the really big issues started (engine, transmission, etc.) We just got our new car last night, and Mom was already starting to miss the convertible, but she had to face the realities of an aging car. We now have a new 2010 Chev Cobalt LT, and Mom is very satisfied with her purchase so far. At least there is much more trunk room, 2 sets of tires included (winter and all seasons), much better gas milleage, and of course all parts in working order! She didn't really want to go with black since her first car was black, but for some reason, the other two colours were significantly more expensive. Mom can't wait to take it for a good drive this weekend!

Well, time for my nap now! Here is a picture of our new car! :)

SPCA...

Hi everyone,

In just a couple short weeks, I will be visiting Santa Claws for my first time (after all, it will be my first Xmas)! I guess Mr. Fluffy has been going the past few years and was an absolute angel. For some reason, Mom is a little more nervous about taking me. Can you believe she actually thinks that I may create a scene??? As if I would do something like that. And I still can't understand why Grandma calls me "Badness" and "Trouble". I do have an issue with the fact that Mom expects me to wear a holiday party dress.. Hmmmmm.... All proceeds from the event go toward our local SPCA, which is why Mom goes. She always buys the calendar, and last year she bought a recipe book too. We also pay for the pictures.

I have been thinking of what I'm going to ask Santa, and I know I definitely want a Cheese Chase toy. I think the "Cat Sitter vol. 2" dvd would be pretty cool too.. Oh oh.. and a new blanky, and my favourite balls (the ones with the rubber exterior). Mom says they're very hard to find and that Santa may have to make them himself in his toy shop! Whatever, as long as I get some.

Mom would like to remind all fellow animal lovers to please donate to your local shelter this holiday season. We already bought 2 big cases of canned cat food, some toys, and will be getting some blankies for them soon.

I'm a big sister!!

No, Mom didn't get another cat... (although, she would love to!) Maybe in a few months from now, we'll adopt a shelter cat.

I'm a big sister because my biological mom & dad (Sparrow & Cruikshanks) recently had a litter of 2 little girls and one boy! They all look like my mom. Sadly, I heard that my great-grandmother (Elisabeth) passed away. :( She was such a sweet kitty. Mom says she still doesn't know where I "come from". She's still convinced that I'm a gremlin...

On another note, Happy All Hallows' Eve everyone! Here are pics of me in my costume, and the new babies!

Princess Prada - Ew. Royal Canine Kitten formula #36, dry ONLY, please! No treats, none of that wet food chicken intestine slop. Just Royal Canine Kitten formula #36, DRY. OK?????

Toys:
Mr. Fluffy - Toy? What's that? Nap time.
Princess Prada - Where's my ball??? Where's my ball??? Mom, I lost my ball!!! Mom!!! Hello??? HELLLLOOOOOO!!!! Play with me! Play with me!!! Find my ball before I turn your back into my new scratching post!

Extra time at Grandma's with Maya

Good evening everyone,

Mom and I went home to Grandma's last Wednesday evening, as Mom had a conference. We were supposed to come back home yesterday, but I REALLY didn't want to go back! Mom had to chase me everywhere, and I plainly refused to go home. I was having so much fun with Maya that I didn't want to leave! Anyway, Mom was late for her "coffee date" with Auntie J before leaving to go back, so she asked Grandma if she minded me staying an extra week. Of course, she had to go back for work, but I get sooo much attention here, and another kitty to play with! Maya and I are getting along a lot better now! Grandma called Mom earlier and told her how much fun I'm having here. Mom says she really misses me, but is happy to know that I am getting all this attention and play. She's missing out on all the fun! She is spending all her "free time" in meetings and marking papers! Yuck. Anyway, she is anxious to come get her "little ray of sunshine" on the weekend.

Pictures to come soon.

RIP Gingerbread house!

Found the pictures!

My mom can be sooooo weird!

You want to know my mom's latest fascination? My knees. You heard right - my knees. She says I'm so cute when I sit pretty, and she like to poke and prod my fuzzy little knees. Told you she is weird...

On a slightly different note, that old gingerbread house of hers FINALLY kicked the bucket. It collapsed and made a mess of dried frosting and gingerbread all over the floor. Would you believe that thing sat there since last Xmas? I would say it was time!! Mom said it was special because she and Mr. Fluffy made it together. Whatever, I'm just glad to see it gone.

Oh yeah, I think Mom's getting a Fall picture taken of me. The SPCA in her hometown is having an outdoor Fall photoshoot, in a couple weekends from now and Mom would like to take me! We will be there that weekend for a conference (well, she thinks.. she needs a final approval for a supply teacher). What a great opportunity to support the local shelter!

We couldn't find the picture of Fluffy helping Mom with the house, but here is a picture of him admiring the bird shortbread cookie. It's the closest picture we could find!

Back home!

Hi everyone,

Well, I'm back home now, and I'm just as active as ever. Yup, even after 2 surgeries!! Mom really isn't surprised, but I have her terrified because I am not supposed to jump or run, but I am still acting like a little acrobat, despite my many stitches (in and out!) Because of that, Mom has me in my carrying case, but it isn't big at all, so she's worried about what she should do. After all, I can't stay in there all night and all day tomorrow! She will just have to cross her fingers really tight that I won't hurt myself! I usually just sleep while she's at work anyway, so I don't think she has anything to worry about.

I was such a good girl at the vet, and all the staff just loved me. Mom also dropped when they told her how cuddly and friendly I was with them! The staff also told Mom that while I was in the hospital, I made a little friend! Another girl kitten had the exact same operations I had the same day as me and her mommy was picking her up today too! I'll sure miss her!

Anyway, it's great to be home! As soon as I heard Mom's voice at the vet, I went CRAZY meowing!! Mom said "that's definitely Prada!!" I'm looking forward to spending the weekend with her!

Prada's operations

Greetings,

Well, I dropped Prada off at the vet yesterday right after work. She was such a brave little thing, and didn't meow once when they whisked her away. I hated to have to bring her in so early since her operations were only today, but I had no other choice. It turns out that I ended up taking a sick day today because of a nasty cold. I'm sure she did ok last night though.

Ok, so you may be wondering what I mean by operationS. The spay is a given, but I had to make the difficult decision to have her declawed. I really did NOT want to have to resort to that, but I had a VERY hard time trimming her nails without having my arms shredded. I really needed to have someone else hold her down, but I don't have that luxury since there's just the two of us here. Soft Claws were not an option because she would have had those ripped off in no time. Visiting my mom's was a hassle because I couldn't let her loose without having her claw my mother's expensive chairs. She also loved to climb my back, and my back and shoulders were starting to look like a scene right out of a gory horror movie. I tried everything with her to change her behaviour, but it did nothing. Sooooo, this is what led to the decision. That, and a lot of pressure from others. Mr. Fluffy was also declawed, and he was perfectly fine (as far as I know). I trust my vet that he is skilled at performing these surgeries with minimal pain.

I just called the vet to see how my baby did, and they said she did fine and is eating and drinking. (I will believe everything when I see her. The last time they reassured me everything was fine, I had to put my cat down.) Anyway, Prada has to stay at the vet until Thursday because of the declawing. The apartment is so empty without her here. I can't wait to have my baby girl home with me.

Almost a month!!

Dear readers,

Wow, Mom and I can't get over that it has been a month since we last posted!! Ironically, everything and nothing is going on with us. I'm still a growing girl (and so is Mom, but sideways. HA!) I'm actually scheduled for my spay in exactly a week from now. I'm very nervous about this, but Mom assures me I'll be ok. I sure hope so. She actually more concerned about me going nuts and ripping open some stitches. She wishes she could stay with me for a couple days, but she must work.

Speaking of work, Mom is now teaching high school. She says it is a HUGE adjustment from teaching Elementary kids, but she does enjoy it. Most of her students are great and participate very well. Of course, it would be completel unrealistic to expect all 130 of them to be excellent. She is very busy every night, but is trying hard to stay on top of everything.

Anyway, it is getting late, so we are off to bed now, but I will update later with pictures and more info.

Nighty night all!

A few random facts about me...

Mom was wide awake at 3:30am because of worries and tummy issues, and I got up with her. It's now 5am, and she still can't fall asleep again, so we thought we would put together a few random facts about me (some of Mom). Here we go...

Thinking about getting another cat:

  1. Mom could not stand a catless house after sweet Mr. Fluffy went to Rainbow Bridge. After all, a cat is what makes a house a home. :)
  2. She wanted a female in order not feel that she was stepping on Fluffy's territory, and the love she had for him.
  3. She wanted to get a kitten from a recognized breeder in hopes of purchasing a show cat and a very healthy and tame kitten ("BAAAAA HAAAA HAAAA!!!" says Mom.)
Choosing Prada (ME!):
  1. I come from Patricia Deschamps' "Simply Rose Himalayan" cattery. Mom had her heart set on a female Seal Point Himalayan. I'm very close, but my features are a little more rare. *See #2
  2. I am a Seal Point Tortie Himalayan with Lynx Coat Pattern.
  3. Mom didn't actually fall in love with me first when she met the litters. She actually fell for a pure white male Persian (EXACT same as Fluffy), but she just couldn't do it.
  4. Mom did think I was super adorable and chose me over everyone else.
  5. She did have a faint "bad" feeling about getting me which caused her some anxiety. For instance, I meowed a whole lot when Mom picked me up while the rest of the litter was very quiet about being picked up and held. Mom suspected I was VERY close to my feline mother.
  6. When the breeder said I was ready to go, Mom didn't feel I was. She was right. I was VERY nervous and stressed during my first visit home. I threw up, and Mom brought me back. I was very happy.
  7. When Mom did bring me home for good, I was still very nervous, but eventually came around. The breeder said that my feline mother was going nuts trying to find me. (Again, Mom was right. She knew Sparrow and I were very close, and I wasn't ready to leave the nest yet. She feels very sad about this. See #12)
  8. Mom felt that I was weaned too early and considered feeding "formula" from a bottle from the vet, but decided that since I was eating ok (despite my VERY picky early eating habits).
  9. Early eating habits: It took a while for Mom to discover how I liked my food. I wasn't ready for dry kibble yet, so Mom had to soak my kibble in water for about 10 mins, microwave for 20 secs, then stir and let cool. (Yes, you can imagine how time consuming preparing my meals was back then!) Luckily, it didn't take long for me to have a preference for dry kibble.
  10. I started off with Royal Canine Babycat 34, and am now eating Royal Canine Kitten 36. Still with a mixture of Iams kitten, but Mom is thinking of dropping the Iams after I am fully grown.
  11. I dislike canned food.
  12. Mom now feels as though purchasing a kitten from a breeder is like taking away a baby from her mother. She actually feels very guilty about this, and would adopt from a shelter for our next furbaby someday.
These are the Prada days:
  1. I am now 5 months and 3 weeks old, and have yet to be spayed. (My date is set to Sept. 28th).
  2. I have fully adjusted to life with Mom, although she feels I have some separation anxiety. I throw up from grooming so much when she is away for lengthy periods. This is a symptom of anxiety.
  3. I follow Mom everywhere like a little puppy and don't like her being out of sight for the most part. (Another symptom of anxiety).
  4. A lot of people think I am very mean and rambunctious, and not sweet at all.
  5. #4 is actually somewhat of a myth. I can be rambunctious, but I am a kitten. Mom thinks my reluctance for others to pet me is tied to my suspected anxiety.
  6. I love to purr when being held (by Mom), and I love to be held by her.
  7. I love to give kisses (licks). Especially on the face.
  8. Mom doesn't know where I sleep at night. At home, I sleep with her for short durations. When we're away, I sleep with her all night.
  9. I go CRAZY at grandma's. I'm actually a lot more mellow at home (believe it or not!)
  10. I love rats, but I hiss at dogs.
  11. My best friend in the world is Maya. Unfortunately, she feels differently.
  12. My coat markings are still developing. My tail appears oversized in comparison to the rest of my body.
  13. I have an absolutely gorgeous tail, and I LOVE to flaunt it!
  14. I get very affectionate and rub everywhere when I'm being fed.
  15. I have been in the car several times, and don't mind travelling. (I would rather be out in the car roaming around and causing accidents than being in my travelling bag though!)
  16. I LOVE grandma's chairs (they are now showing signs of wear, thanks to me. Oh boy....)
  17. My favourite toys are those that are free and ready for the garbage. I do love my tent though.
  18. I haven't started eating treats yet. Mom is thinking of introducing some to me within the next week.
  19. I don't get fed table scraps at all unless it's chicken or yogurt. I eat whole fat yogurt until I am an adult in order to help me grow. After 1 year, I will not be allowed to eat this type of yogurt. I am actually not a huge fan of anything except my kibble. (Mom is happy. She won't have to feel guilty about not feeding me people food.)
Predictions about the future:
  1. Mom thinks I will get very excited over Xmas decorations, and I will probably try climbing Grandma's tree a few times.
  2. I will remain an active and playful cat well into adulthood.
  3. I will not have the right personality to be a show cat (much to Mom's chagrin...)
Ok, Mom is ready to go back to bed now (hopefully.) I guess I am off with her.

  • Pretty in Prada
  • CRAAAAAZY Kitty (I wonder why??!!)

What a short but beautiful summer!

Greetings all! It is I, the 5 1/2 month old Prada! Well, sadly summer is coming to an end, and we will be returning back home tomorrow. As you may recall, we came to stay with Grandma for the summer for Mom's summer job. She hated it from the very beginning, but she is done now.

Grandma got married on July 3oth in an outdoor wedding, and it turned out very well. The weather was great, and she was beautiful as always. Mom's cake didn't turn out as "professional" as she had hoped, but it was still ok. Eventually, she would love to take cake making lessons, but certainly not quite yet.

Maya and I still don't get along. Well, I try soooo hard to play with her, but she is not at all interested. I've had a few wacks in the face... Mom thinks I should get the point, but I am a very determined kitty!!! We currently also have Auntie's ratties here, and they are great fun to watch. Maya nor I hurt them - we just love to watch them at a distance. They're so entertaining!! What Mom likes most is that we don't fight when the rats are around. Isn't that funny!! Auntie will soon be coming to pick them up. We will all sure miss them!!!!!

Our move date has changed. Right now, it is October 1st. The townhouse is ours, but Mom is still looking at alternatives since it's a little too expensive for our price range. She has an appointment to see it on Wednesday.

In other news, Mom has scheduled my spaying for September 28th. I have NO idea what that is, but if it involves the vet, I'm not looking forward to it. I'll be almost 7 months old at that point, and one of Mom's biggest worries is that I will go into heat before that. She couldn't really get anything sooner with the vet Mom likes, so she's just crossing her fingers. She's also nervous because it's the same vet hospital she brought Fluffy when he was sick, and she wasn't impressed at all with his care and had to put him down right after. It isn't the same veterinarian who will be operating me though, and of course Mr. Fluffy was much older than me. She has a lot of faith in Dr. Hampton. He is the vet who euthanized Mr. Fluffy, and he is very gentil with me (well, except when he tries taking my temperature! I don't like THAT!!!)

Anyway, Mom and I are sort of looking forward to going back home (sort of...!) We'll miss gardening and sitting outdoors, but I'm sure the weather will soon change anyway. Besides, we're coming back on Thursday until Sunday (to check on Maya while Grandma's away, and to attend Mom's cousin's wedding.)

Well, we hope everyone had a great summer! Pics will be posted soon.

Joke's on Mom!

I played a little joke on Mom tonight. She didn't know where I was, but as I was walking by, she heard some rustling sounds coming from this box. Who could it be???

I then shot up like a Pop Tart saying "Here I am Mom!" (By the way, these photos are a re-enactment.)

What is with the box? We will be moving! That's right. This is a bit of a crazy summer because Mom was in desperate need of a summer job with a steady income, but there was nothing in our city which pays decent wages, and Mom wanted to avoid working alongside a future student (worse - if this student would be her supervisor! HA!) Anyway, a friend of hers from her hometown found her a job there, so we will be moving in with Grandma and her soon-to-be husband for close to 2 months. Now when we get back is the REALLY hectic part. We move! And the sad part is that we are not quite sure where yet. Mom has her eye on a beautiful townhouse, but it is fairly expensive. She will find out the nitty gritty details early next week and decide what to do. Sadly, housing is just as difficult as jobs in this city. On top of packing and moving at the end of next month, she will be starting her new teaching job! It will be a very crazy time for all of us for sure.

I am looking forward to our brief move to Grandma's because that means I will get to spend lots of time with my idol - Maya! She may not be so impressed... Grandma's tenants will be moving out this Saturday, so we will be moving to the basement. It's not so bad. It's a walk-out basement with patio doors looking over the beach (river), a full kitchen and bath, livingroom and a bedroom. The unfortunate part is that Mom will have to drive an hour and back everyday for work. "Ugh!" she says.

In other news, Grandma is getting married on July 30th! Mom is the maid of honor and Mom's brother John is the best man. I wonder if I have a part! Mom is making the wedding cake as a wedding gift. Here is what she is planning (as long as she can get all the stuff here in Canada). She says it's not as difficult as it looks. ;) They will be leaving for their honeymoon a week later for 3 weeks, so we will have the entire house to ourselves, and Mom will be catsitting Maya.

Time for bed,

Lots to talk about!

Let's start with Mom's news to get that out of the way. MOL! She is delighted to say that she has a teaching contract for the upcoming school year! It is actually very rare to land a full-time contract so soon after graduation, so this news is very special to her. So many people have to supply for many years beforehand. She is, however, a little nervous because she specializes in Elementary Education, and she will be teaching High School!! What a switch!! She is getting great advice which she certainly appreciates. She will be teaching French Language Arts to grades 9 & 10. She will really miss the homemade cards, drawings, pictures, hugs, and enthousiasm from the younger kids, but is still looking forward to working with teens. Two of her friends are very proud of her, and will be taking her out for a small celebration this week. She has amazing friends!!!

Now, in MY news, first of all, Grandma adopted a new kitty named Maya. She is a 3 year old Ragdoll cat. I think she's so cool and want to play with her all the time, but she wants nothing to do with me. :( She likes to hiss at me a lot. Mom has been trying to warn me to stay away because I am "stressing" her out, but I REALLY want to play!!! It makes me sad. Hopefully she will come around someday. She is so pretty!

I just got back yesterday from our little trip to Campobello Island. Initially, we were supposed to stay for 1 night, but ended up staying an extra night at our rented cottage! I had a great time running around the cottage. I got lots of fresh air, and I got to see our ferries, the beach by the cottage, and lots of nice scenery. For a little 4 month old kitten, I sure saw lots of stuff!! I travel so well too! I had no problem in the car and even didn't hesitate to use the litterbox on the floor (which Mom found very annoying to keep by her feet!) I ate lunches and drank water in the car, etc. I wasn't shy at all and didn't hide once.

Mom and I are still visiting at Grandma's, but we're leaving to go back tomorrow. Mom has LOTS to do this week.

Here are a few pics:
Maya, under the table. I am wanting to play.

Maya!

Grandma and two of her sisters on the Adirondack chairs by our cottage. This was our view!!!
Absolutely breathtaking!

Our little cottage. I am in the picture too!

Bday poem for Mr. Fluffy

Mom found this poem she wrote for Mr. Fluffy 2 years ago. Isn't it beautiful? She misses him so much. I guess he was a real sweetheart.

Happy Birthday, Baby

Fluffy, you were born in 1994
From that moment on, you are the one I adore.
14 years of fond memories have passed,
My love for you will always last.

You are the best friend I have ever had,
You are always there for me when I am sad.
Th
ere is not much you ask in return,
Yet, from you, so much I learn.

You have taught me to laugh and smile,
To be sensitive to your meows when you haven't seen me in a while.
To realize that animals too are family,
But most of all, to love what surrounds me.

Fluffy, I am starting to see aging in your eyes so amber.
I have to realize we can not be together forever.
I c
an not imagine my life without you my friend,
But to think you will always be with me, I can not pretend.

But for now, your 14 years we will celebrate,
And leave the rest we will to fate.
We have an understanding between us that will never die,
Even after you must say goodbye.

You make my life so worthwhile,
Through your purrs you make me smile.
So let us give cheers,
Baby, here is to 14 beautiful and meaningful years.

Love, Mom

New cat!!

...No, not in our household. Grandma adopted a new cat though! She's a 3 year old Ragdoll cat named Maya. We haven't seen her yet, but we're sure she's pretty. Grandma thinks we will look alike since we both have a Lynx coat pattern! We may get to meet her this coming weekend if we go home. :)

Also, Mom bought me lots of neat toys yesterday. I got lots of cool balls and mice, and oh yeah, a new Kong Wubba! I already had a purple one, but Mom decided to get me a pink one. Nah, I'm not spoiled. Mind you, Mom went to throw one of my balls and ended up hitting me in the head! I'm ok though. Anyway, I have been chasing my new toys all over the apartment. Once again, Mom had to move the sofa to fish a bunch of my toys out from behind it.

That is all.

Ahhhh, this is the life!

So Mom, how do you work this "mouse" thingy?

Oh! Like this!!! I'm such a pro!!

My very first vacation!

Mom says that we're going for a small birding getaway in a few weeks! Yup, I'm going too!! She says we're going to a gorgeous spot at this place called Wilson's Beach on Campobello Island in New Brunswick. Apparently, it is very picturesque. We will be staying overnight in a nice cottage by the water (they allow pets). Of course, we will be bringing my stroller too so I can go outdoors! Hopefully it won't rain or be too hot or cold!

On a side note, I broke one of Mom's decorations this morning. She wasn't too pleased.

Where oh where could Prada be??

Mom has just been trying to get my attention and couldn't find me for the life of her. She looked all over the apartment! It turns out, I was right beside her the whole time!! Here I am! (see picture below). I love playing Hide and go seek with Mom!

Vets suck!

Greetings all!

Sorry it has been so long since I've written. Our main computer is on the fritz (the hard drive is fried. A good chunk of money Mom certainly doesn't have at the moment!), so we're using the laptop. It isn't in the best shape either (probably full of Fluffy's fur and shuts down unexpectedly quite often.) Mom's also been very busy teaching lately and preparing for summer employment. Anyway, I am now 3 months old (a little over 12 weeks), and I am just as rambunctious as ever! I actually don't bite and scratch as much as I did though (mind you, her arms are still in an awful shape!). Mom has tried clapping her hands and saying "NO!", but I actually kind of enjoy it. Nothing like grinding her gears!! So now whenever I play too rough, she just ignores me and walks away. Now THAT, I don't like as much.

Because I'm now 3 months old, I had to go for my vaccine boosters and my rabies vaccine tonight. I HATED IT!! No m
ore Miss nice girl. I batted the vet twice and threw a hissy fit when he tried to take my temperature, so he scrapped that idea. GOOD! Seriously, who likes to be probed up the bum hole?? I did hate the vaccines though, but at least it wasn't as bad. I'm in great shape according to the vet. My bones are good, my muscles are developing nicely, I'm growing like a weed, etc.

Mom and I make a wonderful pair. We've really grown close already. I always run to the door when she comes home and I love to cuddle and purr like a tractor when she picks me up. We also have bad moods on occasion, so that works out well too. Hey, we're women!!

I guess my next vet visit w
ill be in about 3 months for my big spaying (or having my "tubes tied" as Mom calls it.) She would love to go for that operation, but the doctor won't do it. Hmmm, maybe my vet will do it for her! Oh yes, Mom also made a final decision.. I will not be getting declawed! Anyway, here are a few updated pics of me Mom took today. (She finally recharged her batteries!)

Well, these vaccines are making me sleepy. Time for a nap.

Toodles,
Princess Prada

Bittersweet goodbyes...

Monique:

Yesterday and today were my university convocations (two degrees). Although I couldn't have asked for a better graduation, celebration and more to come this weekend, I can't help but feel an incredible sadness and emptiness now. Although I haven't actually had any classes in a few months, I am starting to feel very sad about leaving my beloved university. It is all I knew for 5 years and I fell in love with the campus the moment I stepped foot on it. I have grown SO much from this unique experience (except financially of course. I'm in ruins when it comes to that). Really though, it has been an amazing ride (even the "not so good" times). I loved coursework, I loved experiencing endless success, my professors, my courses, my classmates, the physical campus (except the hills), everything! And now it's all over. I hate the unknown and it really does seem like everything I love and hold close to me always ends up disappearing. I guess it will take some adjusting. And like Nelly Furtado says: "All goods things come to an end".

I'm really hoping to go back for my Masters after a couple years of teaching full time and perhaps eventually earn my PhD and become a professor/researcher. I guess time will tell.

*Squeals in excitement*

Monique:

I finished teaching my preschoolers last Tuesday, and their moms gave me a nice card and gift card for one of my favourite stores - Chapters (a bookstore). Anyway, Ellen Degeneres is my biggest celebrity idol and crush (hey, even my straightest friend has a crush on this woman!) Seriously though, her hair makes me go gaga (loooooove pixie dos on the right person!), she's the perfect balance between femme and butch, AND her dry sense of humour is to die for!! Anyway, I LOVE her show and didn't think it was out on DVD, but much to my surprise, it is!!! Guess what I used my gift card for...
